In addition to importing and distributing the best know coffees from dozens of Latin American, African, and Asian producers, Sandalj is always busy looking for rare and high-quality coffees from around the world. In our company's view, there is no such thing as a division between nations/producers of good and bad coffees. In those areas that already produce outstanding crops, constant follow-ups are necessary to keep reversals in quality under supervision, or to detect new varieties and processing methods that improve the product's final taste.
In lesser-known areas of production, the company's research is even more stimulating. Discovery of less-known coffees can create new and profitable opportunities both for producers and roasters.
Sandalj's efforts are geared towards monitoring the continuous changes in the coffee varieties grown, and in agricultural, harvesting and processing techniques. Both directly and through agents and local exporters, Sandalj finds those coffees best fitted for making an excellent espresso blend. Particular attention is paid to the stability in qualitative characteristics through each season, and over the years.
Each market can perceive the intrinsic quality of the same single coffee differently depending on the extraction process, gastronomy/cultural tradition, and quality of life. The choice of coffees suitable for espresso thus becomes all the more important, and the selection is narrowed down to include only those coffees that contribute to creating the worthiest components for the best possible Italian blends. |

In order to obtain prime coffee in a market share where the increase in world demand is surpassing production potential, it is essential to have an enduring and stable business relationship with growers. Coffee cultivation requires substantial investment, which shows a return over a number of years, and the market is not always favourable to growers.
Long term contracts are starting to take on an increasingly important role in our relationship with producers, particularly in the gourmet segment. On the one hand this creates a sure outlet market for growers, while on the other it ensures supply of high-quality products. The growth in the world-wide demand for quality special coffees makes this mechanism increasingly interesting to gourmet coffee sellers and buyers.
In addition to supporting sustainable development projects, Sandalj is actively involved in numerous international solidarity projects to assist the most needy farmers. The company is certified to market organic products and is registered with international fair trade associations. |
