We discovered this most noble of coffees among the volcanoes of the mountain chain running along the north-western coast of Sumatra Island. It is a truly worthy descendant of the first coffees the Dutch planted there over three-hundred years ago. The coffee is picked, processed and selected by hand and has a singularly rigorous personality, unique amongst Indonesian Arabicas in deserving a place of honour in espresso composition. The coffee is musky and vigorous in character; densely structured. Its intense savouriness immediately evokes a forest herb and gentian elixir, which then evaporates into suave notes of dried fruit and roasted seeds.
